Detroit for years has been the birthplace of talent, especially in the world of music. From the legends of Motown to the more recent stars like hip hop rapper Eminem or the beautiful and talented Aaliyah, the city has given the world the best in the business. Unfortunately most critics believe that Detroit has kind of taken a backseat when it comes to music, but I wouldn’t agree just yet.
Raymond Murry was born in Detroit. He says, “Growing up in the inner city was truly a challenge. You either became a part of the street life or you fought to do better.” There was little support, but that little support changed his life. Instead of getting involved in gang and drug activity he played sports, joined the local recreation center and found love, music that is.
For about four years he has been truly focusing on building a music career, as a college student studying music, and as “JaRay,” the singer/songwriter and recording artist. Already he has been compared to some of the biggest names in the industry like Usher, Neyo and John Legend. He’s been a featured artist on Detroit’s own WGPR 107.5 fm and interviewed by radio host Sylvia Simone. He’s had his singles “Good Love” and “Heartbreaker” placed in rotation in several different states including MI, OH, and GA. Not to mention he writes his own music, and can actually sing.
This guy is the real deal. I’d say one of the best male voices I’ve heard in a while, and his music is great. You definitely won’t get bored listening, that’s for sure. JaRay manages to mix genres, funky beats, catchy rhythms and interesting melodies to create something that anyone can relate to and appreciate. On top of the music your ear is drawn to that voice. It’s commanding, versatile, and silky smooth. Soothing and inviting on the ballads but full of emotion and power on others.
So, whether you’ve given up on Detroit’s ability to produce some of the worlds’ top talent, or if you are just a music head who loves new talent, you have to check JaRay out. You can do this by visiting one of his music pages. You can stay updated on upcoming performances, appearances, join his mailing list, comment, view pictures, and of course treat your ears to some fresh new music.

I’m so happy for you Raymond. Its good to see how you are expanding your music career . I can’t wait to hear your next song. Keep up the good work, that was a beautiful article. I love you bro. You are one of the greats!
